Prioritizing oneself is an act of self-love. It's crucial to care for, nurture, and cherish the inner world that defines you and propels you towards greatness. However, it's essential to distinguish between "self-love" and "self-obsession."
Self-love encompasses acceptance, benevolence, support, and care. Loving oneself means embracing your entirety, including imperfections, while still striving for personal growth and change. It's about extending immense love, compassion, and care towards oneself throughout the journey.
Self-love is about nurturing your soul and encouraging personal growth, whereas self-obsession leads to comparisons with others. It's a misguided attempt to prove superiority in all facets of life.
Self-obsession initiates a draining competition with others, depleting your energy, fostering negativity, reinforcing toxic thoughts, and creating isolation.
There are numerous ways to practice self-love without falling into the trap of self-obsession. Engaging in positive activities that draw constructive energy is one such method. These activities can empower you to overcome significant challenges. Examples include physical exercise, meditation, and maintaining a positive attitude. However,
"Expressing love is as vital as feeling it."
You should vocalize your affection for your body and soul.
- Converse with your soul through writing or speaking. Talking to yourself in front of a mirror might seem odd, but it's effective. Dedicate time to discuss your daily achievements and seek advice from yourself on any challenges. Respond to your inner voice as if it's answering your queries. This practice may feel uncomfortable initially but becomes easier over time. Alternatively, you can write to yourself in a blog, diary, or journal.
- Surround yourself with inspiring quotes about self-love. Post them in your personal and professional spaces. One of my favorites is:
“You, yourself, are as deserving of love and affection as anyone else in the universe.”
This quote serves as a daily reminder. I look at it every morning, and it stays with me, motivating me to prioritize my well-being.
- Embrace your imperfections. Society can be harsh, judging you for not fitting an ideal. Remember, everyone is imperfect, and the concept of an ideal is a myth. Recognize your divine uniqueness.
- Be kind to your physical and spiritual self. Engage in activities that benefit your body, such as exercise and a balanced diet, and those that nourish your soul, like meditation or spiritual practices.
You are the steward of your inner world; tend to it, and it will reveal endless insights about yourself.
